ASHTANGA YOGA Mysore

The Mysore-style classes are the traditional way to learn Ashtanga Yoga. In this class, we offer hands-on adjustments, assistance in challenging poses, and other modifications personalized to your body. The student will gradually learn the sequence with the teacher and eventually develop a personal practice. Mind and body connection is essential for this practice, meaning you have to be focused on what you’re doing to develop your self-practice.

“Anyone can practice. Young man can practice. Old man can practice. Very old man can practice. Man who is sick, he can practice. Man who doesn’t have strength can practice. Except lazy people; lazy people can’t practice Ashtanga yoga” - K. Pattabhi Jois

Expect your practice to range from 30 - 90 minutes depending on where you are in your practice.

Ashtanga yoga:

Beginners

Ashtanga Yoga: Beginners is for those new to the Ashtanga Yoga practice and for all those who want to learn the tradition in detail. We will discover the foundations of this traditional practice like Sun Salutations and Standing Postures. You will flow at the instruction of the teacher in order to learn the traditional Primary sequence of foundational asanas (poses) synchronized with mindful breathing.

Expect this class to range from 60 - 70 minutes.

Led primary Series

The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is the foundational practice of the Ashtanga discipline.

It consists of 48 poses, all with a variety of ranges of movement. The Led Practice consists of Sun Salutations, Standing poses, sitting sequence (primary sequence), and closing/meditative postures. The poses in this series range from basic to challenging and you are NOT required nor expected to be able to perform them all on your first try or class. However, you are welcome to try as much as you like. Always only do as much as is comfortable for you but remember to challenge yourself.

Ashtanga Yoga can have amazing effects on the body, the mind, and the spirit due to its well-structured and dynamic form of practicing the Asana limb of Yoga. Remember, challenging yourself is a good thing, you just have to listen to your body and monitor its levels of energy and awareness. As you practice more, the more you’re able to understand the body and its needs.

“Out of the mind and into the body.” Pattabhi Jois.

Expect this class to range from 80-90 minutes.

Vinyasa

Traditional vinyasa classes!

In this class, we will move seamlessly, from pose to pose, using our breath and fun transitions, following the instruction of the teacher. You will learn pranayama (breathwork), asana (poses), and meditation which will allow you to connect with mind, body, and soul throughout the whole practice. The poses practiced will lengthen (stretch) AND strengthen the muscles and will teach you how to use your breath to control the reactions of the body.

Expect this class to range from 60 - 75 minutes.

Flow & Align

Flow & Aling is based on centered yoga, a Donna Holleman Method. It is based on 8 vital principles of practice:

  1. The meditative state of mind or the “not-doing” of the mind.
  2. Relaxation or the “not-doing” of the physical body.
  3. Intent or the “not-doing” of visualization.
  4. Rooting or the use of gravity.
  5. Centering or the awareness of hara (vital energy).
  6. Aligning
  7. Breathing
  8. Elongating

In this class, we will link postures performed in proper alignment. All ages and levels welcome!

Expect this class to last 60 minutes.
